Project Description

Ice Taxi is a high score arcade racer made over the course of a few weeks by myself with the assistance of some premade assets.

The town's snowed in! But the needs of people waits for no one, and you're the only person with a car good enough to traverse these icy streets. You must drift from location to location, getting people to their destination. Use whatever route you can find, even if it ends up being across the icy lake! Anything to make it before your tank of gas runs out.

Contributions

Programmer

  • Fuel and Destination System

Created a system to give the player a destination that is within an achievable distance given the amount of gas that the player had. The system will loop through random entries until it finds one that satisfies the given condition, where it will then direct the player to go to that location, marking it on the map and pointing the arrow above the car

  • Menus/HUD

This was the first time I had really made things like a pause or a settings menu in Unity, all the menus were created using the Text Mesh Pro system. I also made an in game overlay to display information to the player, which also involved learning how to make a Minimap in Unity

Artist

  • Game Terrain and Game world

Used Unity's Terrain system to create the winter environment while also keeping it balanced and interesting from a gameplay perspective.

  • Game Art - Chose Art Assets

Since this was my first 3D game, I was completely solo, and I am not an experienced 3D artist, I chose to use premade assets for this project. I chose assets that were aesthetically similar and placed them into the world to serve as POIs for the player to travel between

  • Game Art - Main Menu/Splash Image

Drew the main menu art in Procreate using a screenshot of the car from the game as a model for the perspective.
